Dr. Bruce A. Fillman began his educational career after earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). Initially teaching in Richmond City Public Schools, he left for a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon returning, he joined Chesterfield County Public Schools as a teacher at Bon Air Elementary. 

Dr. Fillman served more than 14 years in the United States Army Reserves. As a logistics officer, he worked in various positions to include working within an Army transportation school, serving as a movement control officer, and serving as a company commander of an Inland Cargo Transfer Company.

Upon completing a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), he served as an assistant principal at Swift Creek Elementary for 4 years and as a principal at J.G. Hening Elementary School for 6 years. Concurrently, he pursued a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, Policy, and Justice at VCU, culminating with a dissertation analyzing the cost-effectiveness of early literacy growth within public pre-k programs. In 2021, Dr. Fillman opened the Chesterfield Virtual School, Virginia’s first K-8 public virtual school, a school focused on pushing the boundaries of education beyond the four walls of a traditional school setting. 

In 2024 he was named principal of Chesterfield County’s newest and largest middle school, set to open in August 2025. As the principal of Deep Creek Middle School, and as a husband and proud father of two children who attend Chesterfield County Public Schools, Dr. Fillman is dedicated to enhancing education through community engagement and by challenging students to become kind, informed, and contributing members of society.

Mrs. Charlee Breeden is honored to join the Deep Creek School community for the 2025-2026 school year. She began her career as a high school English teacher in both Culpeper County and Chesterfield County. For the past seven years, Mrs. Breeden has been an administrator at Tomahawk Creek Middle School, including four years as the Associate Principal. Mrs. Breeden represented TCMS and Chesterfield County as she was named VASSP Assistant Principal of Virginia for the 2022-2023 school year. Mrs. Breeden is honored to bring the commitment, knowledge, and relationships she has gained to Deep Creek Middle School. 

A proud Hokie, Mrs. Breeden earned her undergraduate degrees in English and Interdisciplinary Studies from Virginia Tech in 2011. She later obtained her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from George Mason University and continued her educational journey at the University of Richmond, where she pursued coursework in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. 

Mrs. Breeden and her husband, Jeb, are proud parents of two children: Monroe Jane, age 4, and Miller, almost 2. Together, they enjoy exploring the Richmond area and taking advantage of its many outdoor activities. 

Mrs. Breeden is excited to continue fostering strong relationships and collaborating with families to build a positive and lasting school culture at Deep Creek Middle School.

Kimberly Lewis proudly serves as an Assistant Principal at Deep Creek Middle School, bringing a strong background in education and a passion for student success. She earned her Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Administration and Supervision from Liberty University.

Ms. Lewis began her career in education in 2006 as an Exceptional Education Teacher. Since then, she has served in several leadership roles, gaining valuable experience and developing a collaborative leadership style focused on supporting students, staff, and families.

She is deeply committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive school environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive. Ms. Lewis believes that strong partnerships among families, educators, and the broader school community are essential to helping students reach their full potential. Her leadership is grounded in empathy, accountability, and a shared commitment to student growth and achievement.

“Mickey” Futrell brings over 21 years of experience in education to his role as Dean of Students at Deep Creek Middle School. His career has been dedicated to supporting students and teachers through meaningful instruction, innovative technology integration, and strong, student-centered leadership.

Mr. Futrell began his career in Henrico County, where he served as a 6th and 7th grade Social Studies teacher at Mt. Vernon Middle School and Elko Middle School from 2003 to 2013. He then transitioned into instructional leadership as an Integrator and Instructional Designer in Chesterfield County Public Schools. Over the past 12 years, he has supported a wide range of schools, including Falling Creek Middle, Manchester Middle, Tomahawk Creek Middle, James River High, and Clover Hill High School. In these roles, he worked closely with educators to enhance instruction, lead professional learning, and support the meaningful use of educational technology.

Mr. Futrell holds a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies from Longwood University, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Instructional Technology from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Post-Master’s Certificate in Administration and Supervision from Longwood University.

Throughout his career, Mr. Futrell has remained passionate about creating supportive environments where students and teachers feel heard, valued, and empowered. He believes in leveraging technology to deepen student engagement and to help learners make meaningful connections with their learning.

Mr. Futrell lives in Chesterfield County with his wife and two daughters—one a proud graduate of Chesterfield County Public Schools and the other currently attending. He is honored to serve the Deep Creek community and looks forward to partnering with families, staff, and students to foster a positive and engaging school experience.
